50 Things That Bring Me Joy
Hey guys! I hope you got over the hump and are enjoying your Thursday and gearing up for the weekend! I’ve had a really great week so far, and am just in an overall cheerful mood. For that I am grateful! Maybe annoyingly so, but whatever!
To be completely honest, I haven’t had the slightest clue what to write about. I have a couple different topics floating around but nothing feels solid enough for me right now. I hate when this happens! Sooo, after much deliberation, okay all of 2 minutes tops… I’m going to write a list of 50 things that bring me Joy! I’m going to try to keep this as authentic as I can, without too many generic answers. If this sort of thing bores you - carry on, maybe I’ll have something better next time! And moving on!
Cameron’s sense of humor. He can cut a joke almost anytime, anywhere and I’m almost always the first to laugh. It was one of the first things that drew me to him.
Anna Kate’s questions and comments. They are raw. They are unedited. They are usually hysterical, and I love how her little brain works!
Sutton’s grin and when she wakes up flailing in her little squirrel suit. She looks like a mix between a flying squirrel and a happy little start fish. Love that booger!
Singing at the top of my lungs with zero craps given as to what I sound like and who can hear me.
Dancing! Anywhere, anytime. Don’t mind me, just boppin’ along.
Music of all kinds, but especially some good ‘ol rock n roll. It’s good for the soul!
Dirty jokes. I know, I know… not nice, Alexis! But I don’t care. Body humor and dark humor is the best kind.
When the underdog wins!!! The movie Rudy is a prime example and gets me every time!
Taking my bra off when I get home. If you’re a girl - you know. It’s so freeing. May also provoke fear in others - but that’s okay.
Fall weather! It’s cool. It’s crisp. Everything feels amazing and its just so pretty!
Bon fires and charred marshmallows. Yes, I like them black!
Naps on a Sunday! (Really naps any day if you know me well)
A great hair day! I get these every once in a while when I put in the effort and the reward is * I whip my hair back and forth *
A bear-hug. Okay, not from a bear. Or just anybody. But I love a good strong hug. They are comforting.
Getting a card in the mail. I call these “paper hugs”. They make me feel so special!
Sending card in the mail. I love snail mail and sending a “paper hug” is even better than getting one.
Nature! I love the outdoors. Flowers, plants, trees, grass, butterflies, birds - love it all!
Eating tacos. Okay you all knew this. Really it’s Mexican food in general. It may give me heartburn from the pits of hell, but I’ll take my chances.
Charcuterie Boards or Shark Cootie Boards. Whatever floats your boat.
Typing fast with no mistakes. Makes me feel like I have little ninja fingers.
Getting my back scratched. Also getting my head rubbed. Both are amazing!!!
A fresh pedicure! Pretty toes and a little foot rubby dub dub.
Baggy sweatshirts and hoodies. Like a warm little burrito. (Yes, a reference to Mexican food again)
A productive day at work or home! I love feeling accomplished and crossing items off my list.
The farm. It’s the most peaceful place with the best views. I love it there and am so blessed!
Dogs and puppies! I love most all animals, but dogs and puppies are just like God’s gift to us.
Doing my own makeup or doing someone else’s. I just enjoy playing around with it when I have time.
Anna Kate snuggles. She’s a bed hog, but she is warm and sweet and lays her head right on my shoulder.
Also Cameron snuggles. I’m actually not a cuddler usually, but sometimes I just like to snuggle up with my man.
When my pillow and sheets are cold. I love sleeping in a cold room!
A great book. When they can completely take you into a different time and place - it’s good!
A sunny day. It doesn’t need to be scorching hot, or even warm - but when the sun comes out, everything is brighter and better.
A good cup of coffee. I usually only drink a cup, maybe two in the morning and occasionally in the evening, but it warms me up from the inside out.
When it snows and you don’t have to go to work! (Or go anywhere for that matter)
Sunsets - I’m not a morning person, so sunrises are few and far between for me.
Caramel frappe with extra caramel drizzle. SO. GOOD. DRINKING. ONE. NOW.
Anna Kate’s imagination. It’s so amazing to watch and hear and see what she learns and comes up with.
Nothing Bundt Cakes. If you know, you know. Lemon and White Chocolate Raspberry are where it’s at! Also - I’m noticing food really brings me joy! lol
Laughing with my sisters. They get me going like no one else and make me cry, wheeze, pee my pants. The whole nine yards.
Watching Anna Kate be a big cousin. She adores all of her cousins but watching her make Sutton laugh and helping with her is the BEST.
Organization. I’m not good at organizing because I tend to get overwhelmed, but when I really set my mind to it, it leaves me with a great feeling!
The smell of hand sanitizer. I know. I’m weird. Kind of gives me a little buzz! LOL
Speaking of buzzes - I’m not a big drinker but I love me a margarita on the rocks! My eyes start squinting and the giggles don’t stop.
Vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup with rainbow sprinkles. That’s the kid in me! And clearly more food…. whew!
Strolling. Whether its down the beach or on the farm or through the woods on a trail - I just enjoy checking out my surroundings and taking it all in.
I know I already said nature- but FLOWERS! I love digging in the dirt and planting them to see what comes up. Super satisfying to me!
Crafts. I’m pretty wishy washy in the sense that my hobbies can go from one extreme to the other in a millisecond, but everything I enjoy tends to be on the crafty/artsy side of life.
Crossword puzzles. Just call me Gammy - I’m unapologetic.
Useless facts and knowledge. Again - huge geek, but did you know that hippos make pink milk??
God’s love for me. This should have been number one, but I guess I’m saving the best for last. God loves me so much that He sent His only son to die on a cross for my sins, knowing that I have the choice to follow Him or not. What Love!?
Well if you read this entire thing - you’re a winner! Just kidding no prizes. I am pretty pleased with my list. These things bring me Joy! Simple, Childlike Joy! It doesn’t have to be a $500 shopping spree to bring joy (although I wouldn’t be complaining, you know what I’m sayin??) but as the saying goes, the best things in life are absolutely free. I encourage you to make a list of what brings you Joy. You will be surprised at how small things bless us so much!
